Shepherd of the Heart is seeking a compassionate, energetic Lead Teacher to plan and deliver a daily classroom curriculum that nurtures Christian discipleship, spiritual formation, and educational growth for children in our program.
About the Role
You will lead a classroom four days per week (Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), creating a safe, joyful environment where children grow socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and cognitively. You’ll partner closely with our Executive Director, staff team, and families to support each child’s development and faith journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement a developmentally appropriate, Christ-centered daily curriculum.
- Foster a positive classroom culture with proactive guidance and encouragement.
- Provide hands-on care (personal hygiene, learning activities, positive guidance).
- Maintain accurate classroom records (attendance, incidents, behavior, developmental checklists).
- Communicate daily with parents about children’s progress (written updates).
- Ensure health and safety; administer CPR/First Aid when needed.
- Follow emergency procedures (fire, tornado, chemical leak, other).
- Inspect classroom/facility to ensure cleanliness and safe, adequate equipment.
- Observe and report significant behaviors or concerns to the Director.
- Serve as an ambassador for Shepherd of the Heart in the community.
- Uphold confidentiality and collaborate well with Director, staff, students, and parents.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Two or more years’ experience working with children in a group setting preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and learning milestones.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to bend, stoop, run, lift, and carry children as needed.
- CPR & First Aid certified, or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Successful criminal background check required.
- Committed to modeling a positive, Christian attitude and conduct consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
