The School of Social Work at Salem State University invites applications for a Professor of Practice faculty position in our BSW program beginning in September 2027. The ideal candidate will work as a collaborative member of a faculty dedicated to academic excellence, innovation, equity, and student success.
The School of Social Work offers both an MSW and BSW education to approximately 500 students and, was recently named one of the Top 100 Schools of Social Work (#96) by U.S. News and World Report. Duties and Responsibilities
Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, and demonstrated consistent and substantive effort to maintaining modern skills and knowledge in their field of practice. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Professor of Practice faculty duties include teaching, liaising with practicum education staff, providing supervision to students in practicum, academic advising, career advising and professional development for students, participation in committee work, program coordination, and curriculum development guided by practice experience with a focus on equity-minded teaching and transformative learning.
Please Note: This is a four year, fixed term position ending on May 31, 2031.
Required Qualifications
- Earned MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
- Minimum of five years of practice experience, including at least two years of post-MSW professional practice
- Experience promoting inclusion and multicultural competence in an educational and/or work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous university/college teaching experience in social work at a CSWE-accredited institution at the BSW level
- Experience with student internship or practicum education
- Experience teaching hybrid and/or on-line courses
- Experience providing academic advising to students
- Ability to teach across the social work curriculum
- Licensed at the LCSW or LICSW level in Massachusetts

Working Location
This is an onsite position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities.
