POSITION: CERTIFIED POLICER OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: MILAN POLICE DEPARTMENT
REPORTS TO: VILLAGE OF MILAN POLICE DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR
PAY RANGE: $24.00 - $32.40 PER HOUR DOE
SIGN ON BONUS/STIPEND MAY BE AVAILABLE DOE
A certified police officer is a law enforcement professional who has completed the required training and obtained certification to work as a police officer. Law Enforcement and Crime Prevention:
· Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity.
· Respond to emergency calls and incidents.
· Investigate and report suspicious activities.
· Public Assistance:
· Assist and protect the public during emergencies.
· Provide information and assistance to the public.
· Respond to and resolve public complaints and concerns.
Enforcement of Laws:
· Enforce local, state, and federal laws.
· Make arrests and detain individuals involved in criminal activity.
· Prepare and submit detailed reports of incidents.
Traffic Control:
· Monitor and control traffic flow.
· Enforce traffic laws and issue citations for violations.
· Investigate traffic accidents and provide assistance as needed.
Community Policing:
· Build positive relationships with the community.
· Participate in community outreach programs.
· Collaborate with community organizations to address public safety concerns.
Investigation:
· Conduct investigations into criminal activities.
· Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and interrogate suspects.
· Work with other law enforcement agencies on joint investigations.
Emergency Response:
· Respond to emergencies such as natural disasters, accidents, or terrorist threats.
· Coordinate with other emergency services to ensure public safety.
Training and Development:
· Stay current with law enforcement techniques and procedures.
· Attend regular training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
· Mentor and train new recruits.
Use of Force:
· Use force when necessary and in accordance with department policies.
· Understand and apply principles of self-defense.
Court Testimony:
· Testify in court as a witness.
· Prepare and present evidence during legal proceedings.

Education:
· High School Diploma or Equivalent:
· Age Requirement: must be at least 18 years old
· Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship
Background Check:
· A thorough, stringent background investigation is conducted to assess the candidate's criminal history, and overall suitability for law enforcement.
Physical Fitness:
· Candidates must pass a physical fitness test, which may include tasks such as running, push-ups, sit-ups, and agility exercises.
Medical Examination:
· A medical examination will be required to ensure that candidates are in good physical health and can perform the essential functions of the job.
Psychological Evaluation:
· Candidates may be asked to undergo psychological assessments to determine their mental and emotional suitability for a career in law enforcement.
Drug Screening:
· Mandatory drug testing is conducted to ensure that candidates are drug-free.
Driver's License:
· A valid driver's license is required, and candidates should have a good driving record.
Police Academy Training:
· Prior completion of a police academy training program is mandatory. This training covers various aspects of law enforcement, including legal procedures, firearms training, defensive tactics, and community policing.
Certification:
· Certified New Mexico Patrol Officer or Certified in another state and eligible for the 2-week New Mexico Certification by Waiver Academy.
