Job Overview
It’s All Green is seeking an experienced Lawn Care Technician specializing in fertilization and weed control to independently perform residential turf-treatment services.
This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must have substantial professional experience applying lawn-care products, identifying turf problems, calibrating equipment, calculating application rates, maintaining treatment records, and managing a daily service route.
The right candidate will understand that successful turf care involves more than applying products. You must be able to inspect a lawn, identify the likely cause of a problem, select an appropriate course of action, and clearly communicate your findings to the customer and company owner.
Primary Responsibilities
- Independently complete scheduled residential lawn-treatment routes
- Apply liquid and granular fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other approved lawn-care products
- Inspect each property before treatment and identify conditions that may affect the application
- Identify broadleaf weeds, grassy weeds, sedges, insects, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies
- Recognize problems related to irrigation, mowing, drainage, shade, soil, compaction, environmental stress, and improper cultural practices
- Identify and properly treat bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, tall fescue, and other common regional turfgrasses
- Select appropriate products and application rates according to the product label and company program
- Accurately calculate product quantities and mix rates
- Calibrate ride-on spreader-sprayers, push spreaders, hose-reel systems, backpack sprayers, and handheld equipment
- Prevent drift, overapplication, skips, spills, staining, and damage to desirable plants
- Maintain accurate pesticide-application and service records
- Document products, rates, treated areas, weather conditions, target pests, observations, and recommendations
- Leave clear and useful service notes for customers
- Communicate professionally with customers about lawn conditions and realistic expectations
- Investigate service concerns and recommend appropriate corrective action
- Maintain product inventory and notify management before materials run low
- Keep trucks, tanks, spreaders, sprayers, and storage areas clean and organized
- Perform routine inspection and maintenance of application equipment
- Follow product labels, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and applicable regulations
- Assist with aeration, topdressing, soil amendments, and other turf services during seasonal demand
- Help train future technicians as the turf-care division grows
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of direct professional weed-control and fertilization experience
- Demonstrated experience independently operating a lawn-treatment route
- Strong working knowledge of turfgrass, weeds, insects, diseases, and lawn-care products
- Experience with both liquid and granular applications
- Ability to calculate application rates, tank mixes, square footage, and product quantities accurately
- Experience calibrating professional application equipment
- Ability to read, understand, and follow pesticide labels
- Ability to diagnose lawn problems rather than treating every symptom with a chemical application
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Ability to operate a company truck and safely manage application equipment
- Ability to maintain complete digital service and application records
- Ability to work independently without continuous supervision
- Professional communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to regularly lift and handle 50-pound bags, containers, hoses, and equipment
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
Licensing
A current South Carolina Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in Category 3—Ornamental and Turf Pest Control—is strongly preferred.
Highly qualified applicants with an equivalent out-of-state license may be considered, but they must be able to obtain the required South Carolina credentials before independently performing pesticide applications.
South Carolina identifies Category 3 as the category covering pesticide use in the maintenance of turf and ornamental plants, and commercial applicators performing this work on customers’ property for compensation must be properly licensed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of professional lawn-treatment experience
- Current South Carolina Category 3 license
- Experience managing a high-volume residential route
- Extensive experience with bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, and tall fescue
- Experience with pre-emergent and post-emergent weed-control programs
- Experience diagnosing difficult or recurring turf problems
- Experience using ride-on spreader-sprayer equipment
- Experience handling customer service calls and treatment callbacks
- Experience training or supervising other lawn-care technicians
- Knowledge of soil health, irrigation, turf nutrition, and integrated pest management
- Experience helping design or improve seasonal lawn-treatment programs
What Success Looks Like
A successful technician:
- Completes routes accurately and efficiently
- Consistently applies the correct product at the correct rate
- Maintains complete and accurate application records
- Identifies problems before the customer reports them
- Communicates clearly and sets realistic expectations
- Keeps equipment clean, calibrated, and operational
- Prevents avoidable callbacks, turf injury, drift, and property damage
- Takes ownership of customer results
- Makes sound decisions without requiring constant supervision
- Helps improve the quality and efficiency of the overall turf-care program
