Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Patient Care Technician is responsible for performing non-licensed patient care in accordance with established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies.This position is a non-licensed/certified staff member authorized to transport and/or stock medications to meet specified essential job duties. This includes staff who do not have the authority to prescribe, dispense and/or administer medications. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
Principle Accountabilities:

Performs general, non-licensed respiratory procedures:

oximetry spot checks

oxygen set-ups, tank exchange
-
Assist patients with mobility needs:

transfers
-
turning and repositioning in bed
-
maintaining a clean and safe room environment
-
assisting patient to bathroom
-
transporting to tests or other hospital locations
-
Performs other patient care activities to include, but not limited to:
-
simple skin care
-
oral hygiene
-
partial bath
-
complete bath
-
shaving
-
bed making (unoccupied and occupied)
-
foley care and emptying and recording output from foley catheters
-
providing bedpan or urinal as needed
-
weigh patients
-
application and reapplication of SCD's, TED hose, Aqua K pads, cold packs
-
passing trays, water, juice and snacks
-
administering ice chips* m. feeding patients n. assisting with menu pick up/delivery and food cart transfer as needed o. applying restraints (bed alarms) as directed

obtain vital signs (temp, pulse, respirations, blood pressure)

emptying drains and ostomy bags, recording output s. changing non sterile dressing changes

assisting with after death care

pain assessment screening

urethral catherization

venipuncture

blood sugar monitoring

assisting with observation of suicide patients

Maintains CPR status

Performs 12 Lead ECG

Performs patient care rounds on patients at least every 2 hours.

Performs procedures related to specimen collection, reporting abnormal values to sputum, urine, stool

Takes inventory of supplies and equipment and restocks as necessary

Responds to STAT/RRT

Transports supplies, mail, labs etc

Performs other work duties as assigned

Employee is required to sit occasionally, stand continuously, and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) and heavy (50 lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to perform simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Employee is occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens. Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100% The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.
