Position Summary
The Borough of Franklin Park is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Public Works Laborer to perform a wide range of construction, maintenance, and repair activities related to roadways, storm sewer systems, municipal buildings, and other public infrastructure. This position supports the daily operations of the Public Works Department and contributes directly to the safety, appearance, and functionality of Borough facilities and rights-of-way.
General Description
The Public Works Laborer performs manual labor tasks requiring physical strength, endurance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment. Duties include shoveling, sweeping, raking, lifting, and assisting with highway maintenance and repair activities. The employee must be able to work cooperatively with others to achieve departmental and Borough-wide goals and perform additional tasks as assigned to support public works operations
Essential Functions
- Perform general labor tasks including shoveling, raking, sweeping, cleaning, and material handling
- Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
- Assist with roadway maintenance, paving operations, and basic highway repair
- Operate non-vehicular and vehicular equipment, including hand tools, tampers, mowers, and trucks
- Perform routine equipment maintenance such as checking fluids and lubricating components
- Support storm sewer maintenance, snow and ice control operations, and emergency response activities
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, snow, and rain

Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required
- Class B CDL required at a minimum; Class A CDL preferred
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment used in public works operations
- Willingness to work as part of a team and follow safety procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with paving operations or roadway maintenance
- Prior municipal or public works experience
- Familiarity with stormwater or highway maintenance practices
- Experience with basic electrical work will be viewed favorably
