Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit medical claims using billing software, ensuring adherence to coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Review medical records and documentation to verify the accuracy of diagnoses and procedures for proper billing.
- Manage medical collections by following up on unpaid or denied claims with insurance companies and patients.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to update patient information and track billing status.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper medical coding using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding systems and medical terminology.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, insurance claims, payments received, and outstanding balances.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries regarding billing statements and insurance processes promptly and professionally.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical office administration or medical billing roles with familiarity in healthcare claims management.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding systems, and DRG classification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, along with experience using billing software and EMR/EHR systems.
- Understanding of health insurance policies, medical records management, and healthcare regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to accurately process complex medical data.
- Effective communication skills to interact with patients, providers, and insurance representatives professionally.
- Prior experience in medical terminology, medical coding, or medical billing is highly desirable.
