Position Summary: The Field Safety Supervisor (FSS) will serve as the designated field safety representative for Northwest Construction The FSS will serve as the technical resource for all relevant safety and environmental compliance areas. In this role the FSS will work collaboratively with the President of the Company, EH&S Director, Managers, and Employees of Northwest Construction in prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses. The FSS will ensure compliance with occupational safety and health along with environmental compliance standards. Work with managers and supervisors to develop and sustain innovative programs to prevent and reduce workplace related hazards.
Reporting Protocol:
The Field Safety Supervisor will directly report to the Environmental Health and Safety Director. The FSS will indirectly report to the President of Northwest Companies for procedural guidance and input for Safety and Health along with Environmental Compliance related issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 to 5 years’ experience in Environmental Health and Safety.
- Strong knowledge of risk management principles and OSHA regulations specific to construction environments.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, Solid working knowledge of EH&S. Solid foundation of Fall Protection requirements.
- Fall Protection, Confined Space, HAZCOM and other relevant safety training
- Must have the ability to pass a background check
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
4-year degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental science or Occupational Safety related course of study. Certified or Credentialed Safety and Health Professional for example: Registered Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety and Health Professional, Occupational Health and Safety Technician, or etc., OSHA 10 and/or 30 Hour, General Industry, Construction Course, or both, First Aid/ CPR/ AED Trained and current or willing to be trained, OSHA 500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction Industry or OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health General Industry, Experience working with emergency responders such as Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Rescue, and Police. Train all required employees on Forklifts and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms.
Position Function and Duties:
- Conduct daily field safety audits of job sites, vehicles, and personnel
- Assist with or conduct Weekly Toolbox Safety Talks to employees
- Conduct Monthly Company Random Drug Test for all employees
- Provide training to employees in the areas of EH&S not limited to New Hire Orientation, Forklift, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, Job Hazard Analysis, and other OSHA related safety training.
- Purchase, acquire and provide appropriate PPE for all personnel along with training appropriate for PPE.
- Identify and anticipate safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental and operations conditions.
- Ensuring timely accountability of EHS recordkeeping
- Monitor, track, and review all injuries and accidents, provide appropriate review of safety violations, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and near misses.
- Manage monthly reconciliation of all HAZCOM protocol requirements including spill response, clean up, and reporting actions.
- Manage and ensure completion of Respiratory requirements
- Ensure building Emergency Action protocols are appropriate.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands:
Constant contact with customers, office co-workers, field staff and management team. Work is performed primarily indoors or in a vehicle (75%-80%) except when doing field observations. Must be able to work with all employees. Must be able to wear/utilize required safety equipment not limited to: respirators, hard hat, safety gloves of various types, safety toe boots and high visibility vest. Requires occasional (0%-33%) walking, bending, reaching, pulling, stooping, kneeling, pushing, stretching, and mental alertness. Requires occasional (0%-33%) climbing, crawling in small and sometimes hot areas to inspect enclosed areas; and lifting to 50 pounds. Ability to communicate clearly required. Must be able to multi-task and problem solve. Ability to handle employee concerns and correct them without hesitation.
Typical Work Conditions:
Constant contact with customers and staff. Work is performed primarily indoors and outdoors possibly with exposure to all weather elements and hazards contained within a job site. Exposure to pest prevention/elimination products, chemicals, baits and traps, and employees performing pest control related job work. Work involves continual use of industry equipment (Forklifts, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms), materials, and products.

- Blood Alcohol Monitoring device
- Respirator and/or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SBCA)
- Various types and classes of Forklifts (Powered Industrial Trucks)
- Various types and classes of Mobile Elevated Work Platforms
Safety Standards Required:
This position requires the following for Safety Training Components:
- New Hire Orientation and Acknowledgement
- 30 Hour OSHA Certification
This position is a safety sensitive position as you may be required to drive a company vehicle.
Compensation Expectations:
Employees are paid every week. A payroll calendar is provided by Human Resource at time of employment and at the beginning of each year. The payroll period begins on a Sunday and ends on a Saturday. Payroll is processed on the Monday following the last Saturday of the payroll period and checks are available that same Friday. Direct deposit is available.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
