The Role: Clinical MA & Surgical Tech
This full-time position requires versatility and a commitment to excellence in two key areas:
I. Clinical Medical Assistant Responsibilities
- Patient Intake: Obtain and document thorough medical, ocular, and surgical histories. Accurately record vital signs.
- Ophthalmic Pre-Testing: Perform preliminary diagnostic tests, including measuring visual acuity and basic visual fields.
- Patient Flow & Support: Prepare examination and procedure rooms. Guide patients through their visits and ensure efficient clinic flow.
- Documentation: Accurately scribe for the physician during exams and enter data into the Nextech Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Patient Education: Instruct patients on pre- and post-operative care, medication use, and treatment plans.
- Procedure Assistance: Assist the physician during minor in-office procedures (e.g., suture removals, wound care, filler/toxin injections).
II. Surgical Technician Responsibilities
- Sterile Field Management: Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- OR Preparation: Prepare the operating/procedure room, including gathering, setting up, and counting all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for oculoplastic surgeries (e.g., eyelid lifts, brow lifts, facial procedures).
- Intraoperative Assistance: Function as the scrub tech, anticipating the surgeon's needs, and passing instruments and supplies efficiently.
- Post-Procedure: Assist with the proper handling and labeling of specimens. Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Patient Safety: Assist with patient positioning, draping, and monitoring patient comfort during the procedure.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) Program is required.
- Prior experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in Ophthalmology, Dermatology, or Plastics/Aesthetics is strongly preferred.
- Experience or certification as a Surgical Technician (CST) or equivalent scrub experience is a significant advantage.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, especially ocular anatomy.
- Excellent manual dexterity, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and function effectively in high-pressure surgical environments.
