Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical CAD Designer who brings practical, real-world experience to the table. This role is ideal for someone who understands how things are actually built—not just designed—and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will translate concepts into production-ready designs while working closely with engineering and shop teams to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and assemblies for fabricated components and systems
- Develop production-ready prints including tolerances, materials, and manufacturing notes
- Collaborate directly with shop floor personnel to ensure designs are practical and buildable
- Revise and adapt designs quickly based on real-time feedback and changing project needs
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment
- Support prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement efforts
- Maintain organized documentation and revision control
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in fabrication, machining, welding, or manufacturing environments strongly preferred
- 2+ years of CAD design experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar)
- Strong understanding of how components are manufactured and assembled
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Education
- Formal education is valued, but practical experience is prioritized
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field is a plus—not a requirement
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in custom fabrication or low-to-mid volume production
- Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing tolerances
- Experience working closely with production teams or on the shop floor
- Exposure to ERP/PDM systems
