The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment in a daycare classroom. This position supports children's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development while fostering positive relationships with families.
Job Duties:
- Assists the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily classroom activities and lesson plans.
- Supports children's learning through play-based and hands-on experiences with an emphasis on positive behavior guidance.
- Ensures a safe and positive classroom setting. Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment.
- Supports meal service, transitions, toileting, and other daily routines.
- Builds positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
- Follows all Head Start Performance Standards, licensing and daycare regulations, and program policies.
Knowledges, skills and abilities:
· Associate's Degree or be enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program. Minimum is a High School Diploma/GED and CDA (Child Development Associate) OR be enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within 2 years.
· Experience working with preschool-aged children in a daycare setting and knowledge of early childhood development.
Must be required to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with children throughout the day. Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable to operate agency vehicles.
· Must be willing to obtain and maintain Basic First Aid, CPR certification and MAT (Medication Administration Training) within the initial probationary period and maintain certification. Required to be MAT trained and certified to pass medications as needed. Will provide training for all medical certifications.
