The Paid Prevention Internship Opportunity (PPIO) is a grant-funded, part-time position within a NYS OASAS-certified Prevention Program. This internship provides a hands-on, entry-level pathway for individuals interested in the Prevention field and working toward a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential.
Under the supervision of the Prevention Program Director, the Prevention intern will utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework, Risk and Protective Factor framework, and Community Schools model to support and participate in initiatives that strengthen school programming and school connectedness, focus on student health and well-being, and strengthen families and neighborhoods in rural towns within Livingston County. This position is responsible for working with the school and community to identify existing assets for positive youth development and create collaborations to identify strategies for change. They will connect with school administration, staff, and community members to assess needs or gaps in services and develop a plan for programs and strategy implementation, focusing on rural areas within the county. This will include the implementation, development, and management of community schools’ activities, events, programs, and services that lead to healthy and successful children, strong families, and a thriving community. The Prevention intern will also work on general awareness campaigns promoting healthy childhood development, resilience, and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) education.
Special events or projects may take place during the early evenings and/or on a weekend.
Tasks/Duties may include (but not limited to):
· Interns will learn the process of identifying the needs of a community.
· Interns will learn about and utilize Evidence Based Programs (EBP) to assess needs of individuals, families, and the community.
· Interns will develop and implement Environmental Change Strategy efforts.
· Interns will participate in community engagement; attend community meetings, collaborate with community coalitions and task forces, and strengthen community relationships.
· Interns will work closely with community stakeholders including service providers, schools, law enforcement, and local businesses to provide prevention education and tools.
· Interns will aid the agency with development and implementation of new workshops and initiatives to serve the community.
- Interns will partner with school faculty to promote the community school’s model and strategies based on needs and resource assessments while providing school-wide and building-based trainings and technical assistance
- Interns will implement Evidence-based programs across the county with youth, adults and older adults
· Interns will create/compile presentation materials applicable to adults and youth populations (i.e. fact sheets, brochures, etc.)
- Interns will collect and enter statistics and relevant data to generate reports and to meet deadlines as needed
· Interns will be provided with training and close supervision to be able to complete all tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to adhere to strict policies/regulations relative to being in a tobacco-and alcohol-free workplace.
· Work is performed in a school and within the school community; working with students, families, school staff, and other adults
