Overview:
Philips CPA is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tax Staff member to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This role is essential in supporting our clients' financial needs and providing exceptional service.
Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation
- Prepare individual (1040) and business (1120, 1120S, 1065) tax returns accurately and efficiently.
- Identify missing or additional documents required to complete tax returns and communicate with clients or senior staff as necessary.
- Apply current tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and optimize client tax positions.
Research and Compliance
- Perform basic tax research on federal, state, and local tax regulations as directed by senior team members.
- Ensure all tax filings meet deadlines and comply with filing requirements.
Client Communication
- Respond to client inquiries regarding tax documents, deadlines, and process updates.
- Request necessary documentation and maintain professional communication throughout tax engagements.
Software Utilization
- Utilize tax preparation and CRM software, including UltraTax, ClickUp, ShareFile, and QBO.
- Input data from client-provided documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with senior staff and managers to resolve complex tax issues.
- Participate in team training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain organized and detailed records of tax workpapers.
- Support e-filing processes and address any rejected returns promptly.
- Track and input time and communicate vacation requests / sick leave to management.
Skills
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in financial software for efficient data management and reporting.
- Experience with debits, credits, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Knowledge of payroll processes and compliance requirements.
- Ability to write clear financial reports that communicate complex information effectively.
- Familiarity with accounts payable functions to ensure accurate processing of invoices.
- Understanding of financial sales concepts related to tax services is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under deadlines.
