Who We Are
Sampson LLC is a Long Island-based accounting and advisory firm. We work directly with small and mid-size business owners as their most trusted financial partner — handling tax preparation, bookkeeping, financial reporting, and CFO-level advisory. Our firm is led by an IRS Enrolled Agent with full representation authority before the IRS, and we use modern tools including QuickBooks Online, Intuit ProConnect, and AI-assisted workflows to deliver high-quality, consistent service.
We are a lean, high-performing team. Everyone on staff does real work, and we invest in people who want to grow.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Tax Specialist to join our team and become a core part of our tax production operation. This role exists because our practice is growing and we need a skilled tax preparer who can handle individual and business returns independently, communicate with clients professionally, and work within a team structure that includes both local and offshore support staff.
You will report directly to our COO, who coordinates tax workflow and client communications. Our IRS Enrolled Agent provides signing authority, technical guidance on complex situations, and IRS representation when needed. This is a real tax role — not data entry, not admin support.
What You Will Do
Tax Preparation (Primary Focus)
- Prepare individual income tax returns (Form 1040) including Schedule C, Schedule E, and Schedule SE
- Prepare business returns for S-corporations (Form 1120-S) and partnerships (Form 1065)
- Handle multi-state filings for clients with cross-state activity
- Gather and organize client tax documentation at intake
- Assist with IRS notices and correspondence under EA supervision
- Support more complex tax planning discussions as directed by leadership
- Client & Team Communication
- Communicate with clients on tax questions, document requests, and return status in a clear, professional manner
- Coordinate with offshore accounting staff on supporting bookkeeping and data organization tasks
- Maintain organized client files, deadlines, and task notes within our practice management system
- Review AI-assisted output for accuracy before client delivery
What We Are Looking For
Required
- 2 – 5 years of tax preparation experience, including hands-on work on individual and business returns
- Demonstrated proficiency preparing Form 1040 with common schedules (C, E, SE)
- Experience with at least one business return type: Form 1120-S, Form 1065, or Schedule C filers
- Comfortable managing multiple client deadlines simultaneously
- Organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
- Clear written and verbal communication skills — clients will hear from you directly
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
Strongly Preferred
- Intuit ProConnect experience
- QuickBooks Online proficiency
- Prior experience in a multi-client tax or public accounting environment
- EA, CPA, or active progress toward either (not required, but valued)
What We Offer
- Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 based on experience
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- 401(k) with company matching
- Paid Time Off
- Performance-based incentive program
- Stable Monday – Friday schedule, in-person, Sayville NY
- Direct mentorship from an IRS Enrolled Agent
- A real path to senior-level tax work and client responsibility
- Growth Path
This is not a dead-end position. We built this role with growth in mind. As you build familiarity with our clients and demonstrate strong, accurate work, you will take on increasing responsibility:
- More complex return types and planning conversations
- Direct ownership of a defined client portfolio
- Advisory-level engagement alongside our EA and CFO team
We promote from within. If you want to build a career, not just hold a job, this is the right firm.
