Position Overview
The Digital Literacy Instructor will develop lesson plans and provide digital literacy instruction to adult ESOL learners in Northeast Philadelphia twice weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. This role ensures that adult learners of varying literacy levels develop the digital skills necessary to navigate daily life, access opportunities, and engage in their communities.
This role collaborates with the ESOL Program Manager, Digital Literacy Coordinator, and administrative team to ensure students are placed appropriately, supported holistically, and progressing toward their personal, educational, and professional goals.

Position Overview & Core Responsibilities
1. Instruction & Program Design
● Plan and deliver engaging, level-appropriate digital literacy instruction for adult learners ranging from beginner to advanced using Northstar, Ventures, and Stand Out digital materials.
● Adapt lessons to meet the needs of learners with limited literacy, limited English proficiency, and/or no prior technology experience.
● Develop structured lesson plans and learning objectives (e.g., device basics, email use, job search platforms, online safety).
● Integrate real-life applications into instruction (e.g., filling out forms, accessing healthcare portals, applying for jobs).
● Collaborate with ESOL instructors to align digital literacy lessons with classroom content and learner goals.
● Track participation, attendance, and basic program outcomes.
● Assess student progress informally and adjust instruction accordingly.
2. Curriculum Development & Resource Creation
● Identify and integrate relevant online tools and platforms (e.g., job search sites, email platforms, digital forms).
● Incorporate accessible and culturally responsive materials.
3. Program Coordination & Collaboration
● Work closely with the Digital Literacy Coordinator, ESOL Program Manager, and administrative team to align digital literacy with broader program goals.
● Participate in staff meetings and contribute to program planning.
● Identify opportunities for program growth (e.g., new workshops, expanded access, virtual learning).
Typical Schedule/Work Hours
This is a part-time position requiring evening hours for classroom instruction on Tuesdays and Wednesday from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.., totaling 3 hours instruction per week, with 1 hour of paid preparation per week. The schedule may include both instructional time and hours for student support, coordination, administrative responsibilities, and professional development.
Qualifications
Education
● Bachelor’s degree required; degree education, computer science, instructional technology, or a related field
Professional Certifications
● TESOL certification or equivalent experience required
Language Proficiency
● English proficiency required
● Additional language skills are an asset, but not necessary as we have multilingual learners (Spanish, French, Pashto, Vietnamese, Portuguese)
Technology and Digital Skills
● Proficiency in basic computer operations (Windows/Mac), internet navigation, and common applications (email, word processing, browsers).
● Experience with cloud-based tools such as Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms).
● Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues independently.
● Experience with Northstar Digital Literacy preferred
● Comfort learning and teaching new platforms quickly.
