CNC Machinist 5-Axis (Heidenhain Controls)

Position Summary
We are seeking experienced 5-Axis CNC Machinists to support aerospace tooling and precision component manufacturing. This role is responsible for the setup and operation of 5-axis CNC milling machines, with a strong emphasis on Heidenhain controls.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with complex machining, tight tolerances, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce tooling and precision parts
- Work with Heidenhain controls (required/preferred); Fanuc and Siemens experience is a plus
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and process plans
- Perform machine setups, including tooling, offsets, and fixture alignment
- Run and monitor machining operations to ensure quality and efficiency
- Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision tools
- Make MDI edits and minor program adjustments as needed (with proper approval)
- Troubleshoot machining and quality issues; support root cause analysis
- Collaborate with Engineering, Programming, and Quality teams
- Maintain clear communication between shifts through logs and hand-offs
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area (6S standards)
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience operating 5-axis CNC milling machines
- Experience with Heidenhain controls strongly preferred
(Fanuc 15MB / 30i or Siemens 840D experience also considered)
- Ability to perform full machine setups independently
- Strong blueprint reading skills and understanding of GD&T
- Experience holding tight tolerances in aerospace or precision machining environments
- Ability to calculate feeds, speeds, and chip loads
- Experience machining materials such as:
- Aluminum
- Invar
- Composites
- Graphite
- Proficiency using inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc.)
- Ability to perform MDI (Manual Data Input) adjustments
Preferred Qualifications
- CNC Machinist certification
- Experience with advanced cutting tools and high-speed machining
- Forklift and overhead crane experience
- Aerospace or tooling manufacturing experience
