Job Summary:
Summit Montessori School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with diverse learning needs in our inclusive educational environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with teachers, children, and families to provide personalized assistance and foster a positive, engaging learning atmosphere. This role will work primarily with Elementary aged children (6 to 12 years) and also with our Early Childhood classrooms (3 to 6 years).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them with academic tasks, social skills, and daily living activities.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers.
- Help create and maintain an inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and collaboration among all students.
- Support students during lessons, ensuring they access the material and can engage with their peers.
- Assist in the management of classroom behavior and implementation of behavioral interventions as directed.
- Participate in training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- In collaboration with teachers and the Learning Specialist, maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions used.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; associate's degree or higher in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education practices, IEPs, and behavioral interventions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Collaborative working style and with a growth mindset
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and supporting diverse learners.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of individual students and modify support strategies as needed.
- Comfort with supporting students in Elementary mathematics topics preferred.

Anticipated Start Date August 26, 2026 though opportunities to help with Summer Camp exist.
