The Robotics & Automation Technician is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and continuous improvement of automation systems across production operations. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with project management responsibilities, identifying and executing automation initiatives that improve safety, efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
The Robotics & Automation Technician will perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on robotic and automated systems, as well as lead automation projects from concept through implementation. This includes participating in the automation steering committee to help define automation strategy, evaluating new technologies, and managing vendor relationships to ensure successful project execution.
Essential Functions:

Perform daily checks, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on robotic and automated systems to minimize downtime and ensure consistent production performance.

Install, maintain, and document automation and control system updates.

Design and build end-of-arm tooling or other automation fixtures as needed.

Support production teams by training on proper use and care of automation equipment.

Maintain a safe and clean work environment and actively participate in safety programs.

Identify opportunities for new automation projects and process improvements, including cost-benefit analysis and ROI justification.

Serve as a key member of the automation steering committee, contributing to the development of long-term automation strategy.

Manage automation and robotics projects from concept to completion, including scope definition, budgeting, vendor selection, installation, and validation.

Coordinate and communicate with vendors for quoting, repairs, preventative maintenance, training, and technical support.

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of new automation equipment.
Required Skills:

Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with proven troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Experience in managing automation or engineering projects, including vendor and contractor coordination.

Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills (technical and cross-functional).

Ability to work both hands-on and in a leadership/project management capacity.

Experience with plastic injection molding automation systems preferred.

Familiarity with PLC programming, vision systems, and/or collaborative robotics preferred.

Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing experience preferred.
Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., stand, and move about the facility for extended periods of time.
Competencies:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience: 3+ years of experience in robotics and automation in a manufacturing environment.
