Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Pediatric Occupational Therapist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized therapy services to children across various settings, including outpatient clinics, schools, and home health environments. This role involves developing individualized care plans, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), and supporting children with diverse needs such as autism, disabilities, and developmental delays. The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will collaborate with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to promote optimal functional outcomes and enhance quality of life for pediatric patients.
Duties
- Assess children’s motor skills, sensory processing, and functional abilities to develop personalized treatment plans.
- Implement therapeutic interventions aimed at improving fine motor skills, coordination, sensory integration, and self-care activities.
- Assist children with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Collaborate with speech therapists, physical therapists, physicians, educators, and families to coordinate comprehensive care strategies.
- Educate caregivers and teachers on therapeutic techniques and strategies to support ongoing development outside of therapy sessions.
- Conduct discharge planning by preparing families for the transition from therapy services to home or school environments.
- Document patient progress accurately in medical records and adjust treatment plans as needed based on ongoing assessments.
- Participate in case management activities to ensure continuity of care across different settings such as inpatient units, outpatient clinics, or home health visits.
- Support early intervention programs for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advances in pediatric occupational therapy practices.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapist with specialization or experience in pediatrics.
- Proven experience working with children in various settings such as outpatient clinics, schools, inpatient units, skilled nursing facilities, or home health environments.
- Strong knowledge of pediatric physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and occupational health principles.
- Experience assisting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), disabilities, developmental delays, and post-acute care needs.
- Familiarity with discharge planning, case management, and creating individualized care plans tailored to pediatric patients’ needs.
- Ability to work effectively with children across age ranges from infants to adolescents in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and educating families or caregivers.
- Knowledge of speech therapy integration is a plus for comprehensive patient care coordination.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments such as acute care units or ICU settings is advantageous.
- Prior experience in early intervention programs or school-based therapy is preferred.
