About this position:
The primary function of this position is to assist the Equipment Superintendent in the daily activities of the Equipment Inspection office. This position is located in District61/Unit070 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Equipment Superintendent. The incumbent inspects and maintains current records of the district's fleet in assigned area of responsibility. This requires ongoing working knowledge of equipment and the ability to make recommendations to Equipment Superintendent for equipment replacement, repairs, and new purchases. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
**Selected candidate must obtain a Class B CDL license at time of appointment and will be required to maintain such license while in the position.**
Three years of experience in the repair, inspection, or operation of mobile equipment or heavy mobile equipment; OR
Three years of experience in the inspection of automotive equipment.

Job Duties:

Conducts weekly onsite inspections as well as safety inspections, reviews maintenance records, and records/recommends preventative maintenance for district equipment. Prepares documentation to dispose/transfer equipment within the district fleet.

Attends weekly Section 42 meetings and tracks all equipment under repair to ensure that equipment is repaired promptly and correctly. Assists the Equipment Superintendent in managing the district's confined space program. Manages the district's fleet Fuelman Program.

Reviews the need for various types of equipment with district administration and supervisors. Maintains working knowledge of basic equipment operations, limitations, as well as new and innovative technology. Records and maintains an inventory list of all district equipment, which includes location, mileage hours, repair history, and current condition.

Utilizes equipment records and experience to make recommendations for equipment replacement, new purchases, and repairs.

Performs routine inspections, minor repairs, and operates all pumping stations in the district. Inspects all contract work at pump stations, including any mechanical and electrical repairs, cleaning, and structural repairs.

May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Compensation: The starting hourly rate is $22.52 and goes up to $40.53
License Requirements: Selected candidate must obtain a Class B CDL license at time of appointment and will be required to maintain such license while in the position.
