· Python
· MySQL
· Claude Code
· MarkSystems
· HubSpot
· Microsoft365
· Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate etc)
Role Overview
This is a hands-on, in-office Software Engineer role reporting directly to the CTO. You’ll join a small technical team building internal software, data tools, automation workflows, and AI-enabled business applications. You’ll work closely with the CTO, our Software Engineer – Automation & AI, and IT & Data Support Specialist to maintain and improve existing tools while also building new features and applications for departments across the company.
The ideal candidate is early-to-mid career: experienced enough to debug existing code, ship features, work with APIs and SQL-backed applications, and communicate clearly with non-technical users, while still eager to learn, take feedback, and adopt modern AI-assisted development practices.
This is a practical software engineering role. You will be expected to handle bugs, developer requests, feature additions, application maintenance, internal tools, and scoped project work. Some work will be greenfield; some will involve improving, extending, or refactoring existing applications. You should be comfortable taking a partially defined business problem, asking good questions, producing a working first version, and iterating based on feedback.
We value curiosity, coachability, good judgment, practical problem solving, and willingness to use AI coding tools responsibly. This role requires flexibility: you should be willing to move between application development, automation, documentation, troubleshooting, and user support as the business needs evolve.
Focus Areas
· ~50% internal application development, feature additions, and business tools
· ~15% application maintenance, bug fixes, and production support
· ~25% automation, integrations, APIs, and data workflows
· ~10% technical documentation, cleanup, and internal development standards
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Feature Delivery
· Design, build, and maintain internal business applications used across departments
· Support and improve current internal business applications, dashboards, and workflow tools
· Add features, resolve bugs, and improve usability in existing software systems
· Translate loosely defined business requests into practical technical solutions
· Develop data-backed tools that support operations, reporting, decision-making, and accountability
· Implement role-based access, workflows, forms, filters, exports, and basic authentication where needed
· Iterate quickly based on real user feedback and evolving requirements
Automation & System Integration
· Build automation workflows that reduce manual processes and operational friction
· Integrate third-party APIs, webhooks, internal databases, files, and business systems where appropriate
· Support scheduled jobs, data transformations, exports, imports, and internal reporting workflows
· Work with systems such as MarkSystems, Power BI, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and other business platforms as needed
· Help improve reliability, maintainability, and documentation for internal tools and automation processes
AI-Assisted Development & Applied AI Support
· Use modern AI-assisted coding tools responsibly to accelerate development while reviewing and validating output carefully
· Assist with applied AI features such as summarization, classification, recommendations, search, and workflow support where appropriate
· Support agent-style prototypes, internal copilots, and AI-enabled tools under guidance from the CTO and Automation & AI Engineer
· Evaluate whether AI is the right solution for a problem or whether a simpler software, data, or process solution is more appropriate
· Help develop repeatable development practices for working with AI coding tools, code review, testing, and documentation
Collaboration, Communication & Support
· Work directly with the CTO on architecture, design decisions, prioritization, and code reviews
· Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders across the business
· Ask clarifying questions, surface tradeoffs, and provide realistic updates on progress and blockers
· Document systems, workflows, assumptions, and decisions to ensure maintainability
· Help troubleshoot issues in applications you build or support
· Contribute to internal development standards and best practices as the team grows
Growth & Development
· Direct mentorship from the CTO with frequent feedback and guidance
· Exposure to the full lifecycle of internal software, from idea to production support
· Opportunity to work closely with automation, AI, reporting, operations, and business leadership
· Room to grow into larger project ownership as judgment, speed, and business context develop
Qualifications
· 1–4 years of experience in software development or a similar technical role; strong early-career candidates will be considered
· Strong fundamentals in at least one modern programming language; Python preferred
· Comfort working with SQL, APIs, integrations, files, and data-driven applications
· Experience building or maintaining web applications, dashboards, internal tools, scripts, or automation workflows
· Ability to debug existing code and improve systems you did not originally build
· Familiarity with Git-based development, code review, and basic software delivery practices
· Ability to work independently on scoped problems while asking good questions when requirements are unclear
· Strong curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies quickly
· Clear communication skills and openness to feedback
· Interest in using AI-assisted coding tools while maintaining ownership of quality, testing, and correctness
Bonus (Nice to Have)
· Experience with Streamlit, FastAPI, Flask, Django, React, or similar frameworks
· Familiarity with SQL databases, data modeling, MySQL, SQL Server, BigQuery, or similar platforms
· Exposure to Power BI, Power Query, DAX, Power Automate, or internal business tooling
· Experience with Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Entra ID, or cloud-hosted internal applications
· Experience integrating AI/LLM APIs into applications or workflows
· Comfort with scheduled jobs, ETL-style workflows, data cleanup, and operational reporting
· Experience working in small teams, startup-style environments, or business operations-heavy environments
· Background or interest in construction, real estate, manufacturing, ERP systems, CRM systems, or other operationally complex businesses
