Supervisor: Custodial Supervisor, Buildings & Grounds Administrator
Rate of Pay: Category A of the Support Contract, starting pay $16.00 per hour plus Benefits
Work Year: 12 Months, 8 hrs/day (current B&G employee)/7.5 hours per day new hire
Location: Multiple openings available
Summary: Under supervision, keep assigned buildings, classrooms, and office spaces clean and orderly; perform custodial tasks in the care of floors, furniture, walls, and equipment; carry out minor grounds maintenance and general gardening tasks; operate small power custodial and grounds equipment; perform related work as required.
Qualifications / Experience

High school diploma/GED or related experience.

Knowledge/experience with basic methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.

Experience in operating, using, and maintaining custodial equipment.

Exhibits the ability to abide by all necessary safety precautions and procedures.

Possesses basic computer skills to check emails and work tickets.

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
-
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
-
Attention to detail.
-
Ability to work flexible hours/location as needed (summer hours, cover for absence in another building)

Access to reliable transportation.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Ability to work independently or as a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-
Work with supervision completing tasks and responsibilities as directed by night lead and/or 2nd shift supervisor
-
Wear District-issued shirt, proper attire (closed-toed shoes, etc.), protective gloves/clothing.
-
Safely and appropriately, use cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment.
-
Clean classrooms/offices, bathrooms, and halls/stairwells including wiping desks, tables, sinks, counters, other surfaces.
-
Attend to general custodial duties such as basic plumbing, sick student, spills, water/mud tracked in, etc.

Vacuum carpeted areas
-
Collect garbage and recycling, dispose of accordingly; replace trashcan liners.

Clean and sanitizing washrooms and drinking fountains.
-
Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper as needed.
-
Clean/mop floors, including when necessary, stripping, spraying, waxing, buffing, polishing, vacuuming and shampooing.

Operate power equipment including auto-scrubber.

Set-up and break down for school and afterschool activities.

Wash windows inside and outside.
-
Wash walls and ceilings (cobwebs).
-
Water plants.
-
Dust/polishing furniture.

Notify lead/supervisor for needed repairs or when low on supplies.

Inspect section for cleanliness prior to shift ending.

Check/lock windows and doors.
-
Perform all necessary summer cleaning tasks for the building.

Move furniture as needed for cleaning.

Ability to float between buildings as needed.

Ability to assume the duties as the Night Lead in his/her absence.

Participate in District mandated training programs/professional development.

Other asks as assigned by the Principal, Night Supervisor and/or Department of Buildings and Grounds administrator.
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions of Employment

Vision: (which may be corrected) to read small print and see small objects.
-
Hearing: (which may be corrected) to hear sounds which warn of potential danger; analyze sounds of equipment operation; and determine operating efficiency and needed repairs. Have tolerance to be exposed to noisy conditions and custodial equipment.

Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; twist and bend at torso; turn, raise, and lower head

Lower Body Mobility: to walk on even and uneven surfaces; bend at waist; stoop; stand for prolonged periods of 4 hours; and step over objects.

Strength: to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects that weigh as much as 50 pounds on a frequent basis.

Smell: to distinguish strong odors.

Environmental Requirements: be exposed to harsh chemicals; work alone; work inside as a primary assignment; and perform shift work.

Mental Requirements: to read and write English at a simple level; operate utility turn-off mechanisms and operate security systems; respond to emergencies; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures; follow a schedule; and perform duties without on-site supervision.
