Duties
- Safely operate school buses, motor coaches, or shuttle vehicles along designated routes on city streets and highways while following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after each shift to ensure mechanical integrity and compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations
- Assist passengers with special needs or those requiring passenger assistance, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers using two-way radios for driver communication, reporting any issues or delays promptly
- Navigate in adverse weather conditions and manage traffic situations proactively to ensure passenger safety at all times
- Perform routine maintenance checks and report any vehicle malfunctions or mechanical concerns to the maintenance team
- Ensure passenger safety by enforcing safety rules, managing passenger behavior, and providing exceptional customer service during trips
Experience
- Proven experience driving commercial vehicles such as school buses, motor coaches, or shuttle vans with a valid driver’s license suitable for the vehicle type (e.g., CDL with air brake endorsement)
- Demonstrated knowledge of traffic laws, city street navigation, and transportation safety regulations applicable to school bus operations
- Familiarity with vehicle inspections, maintenance procedures, and adherence to DOT and state transportation regulations
- Experience working with diverse passenger groups, including children and passengers with special needs, demonstrating strong customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively using two-way radios and handle driving in adverse weather conditions confidently
- Previous delivery driver experience or limousine driving is advantageous but not required; a clean driving record is essential
