JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a safety-conscious and detail-oriented HDPE Fusion Technician with proven field fusion experience to join our manufacturing team. Supervises daily fusion operations and shop personnel to ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards, production schedules, and established fusion procedures. Provides leadership, coaching, and hands-on training to technicians, assigns and monitors work activities, reinforces safe work practices, identifies and resolves production issues, and serves as a technical resource for HDPE fabrication and fusion operations. Leads by example through professionalism, accountability, housekeeping, quality workmanship, and a commitment to continuous improvement while manufacturing operation (playe / coach). This role is primarily based in a climate-controlled production facility, with occasional work in an outdoor pipe yard
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follow all safety protocols and promote a culture of safety.
- Perform pre-operation inspections on all equipment before use.
- Operate fusion machines, band saws, forklifts, telehandlers, and hand/power tools.
- Cut, machine, and fuse HDPE pipe to produce fittings per industry and company standards.
- Utilize fusion data recording devices and complete KPA reports.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shop and pipe yard.
- Set up and change over equipment based on management instructions (training will be provided).
- Understand and follow procedures for small, medium, and large projects.
- Inspect final products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Report equipment maintenance needs to the Production Manager.
- Support both indoor and occasional outdoor tasks as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
· Provide basic guidance, coaching, and task direction to shift personnel.
· Support on-the-job training by demonstrating proper fusion procedures, safe equipment operation, and quality expectations.
· Help monitor work progress, identify production issues, and communicate concerns to the Production Manager.
· Lead by example in safety, housekeeping, professionalism, and following company procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven field experience with HDPE fusion (required).
- Ability to obtain and maintain HDPE fusion certification.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and professionalism.
- Basic math and technical reading skills.
- Ability to operate and maintain company equipment safely.
- Strong time management and attention to detail.
- Ability to provide basic shop-floor leadership, coaching, and supervision when needed.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to guide team members and reinforce safe work practices.
- Ability to support training of less-experienced employees under management direction
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years of HDPE fusion or related experience preferred.
- McElroy fusion certifier (performed), must be willing to get certified.
- Must pass safety and fusion training courses and maintain certifications.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Primarily in a climate-controlled indoor facility.
- Occasional work in an outdoor pipe yard, exposed to weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and fumes (e.g., fuel, exhaust).
- Work around moving equipment and machinery.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead or at shoulder level.
- Wear required PPE and follow hygiene protocols.
- Good vision for inspecting work and reading instruments.
SCHEDULE:5 PM to 5 AM, Day shift Monday through Friday and night shift Sunday through Thursday nights, with the ability to work overtime and weekends when required by production backlog or Production Manager.
