Big Valley Pet Resort is a fast-paced pet boarding and grooming facility seeking dedicated, hardworking animal lovers to join our Pet Care Attendant Team. This role is essential to ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of every animal entrusted to us. If you love animals and aren’t afraid of hard work, this may be the perfect fit.
Pet Care Attendants (PCAs) are responsible for the daily care of the dogs staying in our facility. Ideal candidates understand that caring for animals is rewarding, but physically demanding, fast-paced, and requires strong attention to detail.
Animal Handling & Supervision
- Safely transition dogs on leash between kennels, play yards, and other areas throughout the day.
- Walk 1-2 dogs at a time, ranging from 5 - 100 + lbs, both inside the facility and on farm walks.
- Handle and restrain animals safely and confidently.
Cleaning & Facility Care
- Clean, scrub, and sanitize 5 - 50 kennels daily.
- Scoop and dispose of waste in kennels, play yards and walking areas.
- Wash and organize bedding toys and personal belongings.
- Fill 10 - 50 water bowls multiple times a day.
- Use bleach for the proper sanitization of food and water bowls.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized environment for all animals.
Feeding &Medication Support
- Prepare meals 2 - 3 times daily according to detailed owner instructions for 10 - 60 dogs.
- Monitor food intake, water consumption and general wellbeing.
- Assist with basic medication administration as directed by supervisors.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with fellow attendants, pack leaders and front desk staff.
- Take direction, accept feedback and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Communicate with pet owners in a professional, friendly manner when needed.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Physical strength, coordination and stamina to handle repetitive tasks and heavy lifting.
- Ability to safely handle dogs of all sizes, including strong or energetic dogs.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Awareness that the role involves contact with animals who may scratch or bite.
What We’re Looking For
- Passion for animals and a strong understanding of animal behavior and body language.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to get dirty - this job involves cleaning, scrubbing, lifting and lots of poop scooping.
- Must be at least 18 years old and out of high school.
Safety and comfort of the animals is most important at Big Valley, so a passion for animals and understanding of their temperament, behavior and needs is critical.
Pay: $17.25 - $18.00 per hour
