Journey Design Build Inc. is seeking an experienced, hands-on Construction Foreman for residential and light commercial projects throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding areas.
This is a working foreman position. The Foreman will lead a small field crew while actively participating in construction. The ideal candidate understands how a project is built from demolition through finish work, can read plans, lay out work accurately, and maintain a high standard of quality, safety, and job-site organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and work alongside a small construction crew.
- Assign daily tasks and clearly communicate expectations.
- Review drawings, dimensions, details, and field conditions before starting work.
- Perform accurate field layout for walls, openings, foundations, concrete, ceilings, fixtures, and finish work.
- Perform and oversee wood framing, structural blocking, concrete formwork, concrete placement, drywall, doors, windows, siding, waterproofing, finish carpentry, and general construction.
- Coordinate daily field activities with the project superintendent or project manager.
- Coordinate with subcontractors working on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, tile, and other specialty trades.
- Identify conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues before they affect the work.
- Verify completed work for proper dimensions, level, plumb, alignment, finish, and compliance with the drawings.
- Plan daily material, equipment, and tool requirements.
- Track materials and notify management before additional materials are needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
- Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment and safe construction practices.
- Protect existing buildings, finishes, landscaping, and occupied areas during construction.
- Take progress photographs and provide concise daily updates.
- Train and guide skilled workers, entry-level workers, and helpers.
- Correct deficient work and maintain Journey Design Build’s quality standards.
- Secure the job site, tools, materials, and equipment at the end of each workday.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 7 years of hands-on residential or light commercial construction experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience leading a small field crew preferred.
- Strong wood-framing skills are required.
- Strong working knowledge of concrete preparation, formwork, reinforcement, placement, and finishing.
- Strong working knowledge of drywall framing, hanging, patching, and finish preparation.
- Experience with doors, windows, hardware, waterproofing, siding, decking, cabinetry, trim, and finish carpentry.
- Working knowledge of tile installation and surface preparation.
- General understanding of residential electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems sufficient to anticipate conflicts and coordinate with licensed trades.
- Ability to read architectural and structural drawings, details, dimensions, and specifications.
- Ability to perform field measurements, layout, material takeoffs, and basic construction calculations.
- Ability to operate common hand and power tools safely and proficiently.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to lead firmly while maintaining a professional and respectful job site.
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful but not required.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from scaffolding or elevated areas.
- Ability to kneel, bend, reach, and remain on your feet throughout the workday.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in typical Southern California weather conditions.
