Parts Associate – Position Summary
The Parts Associate assists customers and dealership departments with identifying, locating, and purchasing the correct parts, accessories, apparel, and riding gear. This position requires strong customer service, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to accurately research parts for motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmobiles, and personal watercraft.
The Parts Associate works closely with the Service and Sales departments to ensure parts are ordered, received, and delivered accurately and on time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance.
- Identify the correct OEM and aftermarket parts using electronic parts catalogs, diagrams, model information, and vehicle identification numbers.
- Assist customers with selecting accessories, apparel, helmets, riding gear, maintenance products, and performance upgrades.
- Prepare accurate estimates and explain product options, pricing, availability, and expected delivery dates.
- Answer telephone, email, and online parts inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Process parts counter sales, special orders, deposits, returns, refunds, and warranty-related transactions.
- Recommend appropriate related products and accessories based on the customer’s vehicle and intended use.
- Supply parts to the Service Department and maintain accurate parts allocation for repair orders.
- Work with technicians and service advisors to identify required parts and reduce repair delays.
- Assist the Sales Department with parts and accessories for new-unit setup, customer purchases, and accessory packages.
- Order parts from manufacturers, distributors, and other approved vendors.
- Receive incoming shipments and verify quantities, part numbers, condition, and pricing.
- Label, stock, and organize parts in their assigned locations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and report discrepancies, damaged merchandise, and low-stock items.
- Participate in cycle counts and physical inventory.
- Track backorders, special orders, and overdue shipments, keeping customers and dealership personnel informed.
- Maintain attractive, well-stocked retail displays.
- Stay current on dealership products, manufacturer programs, new models, accessories, and promotions.
- Follow all dealership procedures regarding cash handling, inventory control, customer information, workplace safety, and loss prevention.
- Keep the parts counter, warehouse, and retail areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Perform other dealership-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous parts, retail, automotive, powersports, or customer-service experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmobiles, or personal watercraft is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret parts diagrams, model information, and manufacturer catalogs.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and a willingness to learn dealership product lines.
- Strong computer, data-entry, and point-of-sale skills.
- Ability to perform basic math and handle payments accurately.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage several customer requests and priorities at the same time.
- Dependable attendance and a professional appearance.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record may be required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, climb, and work in parts-storage areas.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance.
- Ability to safely operate ladders, carts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Ability to work around vehicles, machinery, oils, batteries, and other dealership products.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
