Built in The Lab. Worn by the world.
GMRT Customs "The Lab" is a premium custom sneaker & creative studio. We build one-of-one customs and corporate branded pairs for companies like Amazon, Waystar, LifeVantage, the Utah Jazz, the Utah Mammoth, and HelloFresh — plus top CEOs, celebs, athletes, and influencers. We're growing fast and expanding into embroidery and branded apparel, and we're looking for people who are hungry to learn, reliable, and proud of doing work the right way. We'll train the right candidate from the ground up.
We're hiring for two part-time roles:
- Custom Artist — sneaker prep, paint support, finishing, and creative production
- Embroidery — running our embroidery machine for hats, apparel, and branded pieces
Tell us which one you're drawn to (or both — some people cross-train).
What you'll do (paid training, real production)
- Prep + production: taping/masking, sanding/cleaning, paint support, finishing, quality checks
- Learn real customization systems: paint, leatherwork, stencils, materials
- Learn to run our embroidery machine: hooping, threading, color changes, quality checks (training provided)
- Support the team in hitting deadlines while protecting quality
- Keep your station clean, organized, and production-ready
Why this job is different
- You learn real-world craft skills — not just theory
- Your work goes on pairs and gear people actually wear and show off
- Fast-growing shop = room to level up and earn more responsibility
Work environment
Chill studio vibe, creative energy — but we run on deadlines. We train you step-by-step, set clear expectations, and build your skills over time. You won't be thrown in alone. This is hands-on work: fine detail tasks and working around paint, adhesives, and solvents.
This is a good fit if you are
- A student or someone needing a flexible, creative part-time job — perfect if you're in school
- 15 or older with reliable transportation to our Draper studio
- Studying art/design/fashion/marketing and wanting hands-on portfolio experience
- Starting your art/craft career and wanting to see how a real custom studio runs
- Detail-oriented and patient — you catch the small stuff before it becomes a problem
- Dependable — you do what you say you'll do
- Comfortable starting with production steps and earning more creative responsibility over time
Growth path
Raises and more hours as skill + speed + quality + reliability increase. We also offer performance-based bonuses tied to production, skill growth, punctuality, and more. As you level up, there's another way to earn with us — helping run our custom sneaker classes. The right person grows into more creative work and can become our go-to on embroidery production.
To apply — send a short message with:
- Your availability (days/times)
- Which role you're interested in — Artist, Embroidery, or both
- Any art/creative or hands-on experience (portfolio/photos optional). No shoe or embroidery experience required.
- Confirm you understand starting pay is $9–$11/hr and you're still interested
- Bonus (recommended): 2–5 photos of any creative or detail work — sketches, painting, design, crafts, nails, tattoos, embroidery, etc. We just want to see your eye and attention to detail.
