1st Class Structural Welder
Location: Pascagoula, MS.
Payrate: $42 per hour and up to $147 per diem per day, if qualified
Description:
Responsible for the joining together of different types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as stick welding and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW). The shipyard environment is an around-the-clock manufacturing setting. Shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, in confined spaces, in different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with almost every position in the shipyard, a Welder may be required to work either day or night depending upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Welders must work safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards. Must have the ability to pass a military specification welding assessment in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G), and overhead (4G) positions. 1st Class has a minimum of 4 Yrs. Welding experience in FCAW and SMAW
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 4 Yrs. trade experience. No minimum education required.
- Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
- Read and interpret blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
- Knowledge of the layout, fit-up and fabrication of steel plate and beam.
- Experience with various trade specific tools such as: hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jacks, levels, grinders, squares, metric and standard tape measures and plumb equipment.
- Flux core and Stick tacking
- Must be able to pass a hair follicle screening and a background check
