Aquila's Fitness Specialist (temporary, full-time) assists members in safe and effective exercise and performs a wide range of technical exercise and administrative duties in health/fitness center.
Job Type: This opening is a temporary position expected to last for sixteen weeks, starting in November 2026.
Pay Rate: The base salary for this position is $25/hour with a 40-hour week.
Location: This is an in-person position Monday-Friday located in Washington, DC.
Work Hours: Full-time 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Candidates must be able to work shifts from 12 pm - 8 pm. and 10 am - 6 pm. on alternating days as scheduled. Availability for both of those shifts is a requirement for the position. Any candidate unable to work both shift times on alternating days will be disqualified from consideration.

Responsibilities include:
- Supervise exercise areas
- Educate members concerning safe exercise techniques
- Conduct personal fitness training sessions
- Provide to membership weight loss based nutrition counseling and counseling regarding learning basic lifestyle changes or health coaching
- Perform exercise assessments and prescribe exercise upon American College of Sports Medicine guidelines
- Conduct safe and effective assessments including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility and body composition analysis; evaluate and interpret data and identify high risk participants and special populations
- Aid members - spotting and equipment usage
- Explain all equipment
- Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of all equipment
- Adhere to departmental and club policies and procedures
- Adhere to clients policies and procedures
- Attend staff meetings
- Assist in wellness and fitness promotions and external events
- Perform daily administrative duties
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Health Promotion or Related Field
- Active NCCA accredited Fitness Certification - (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, NCSF, NCCPT or AFAA or any other that is NCCA accredited)
- Minimum of 2 years experience in fitness assessments and training, personal coaching, and similar activities.
- Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent
- Must be a U.S. citizen as this is a government location
- Able to work full time, 5 days a week, in person, Monday-Friday
