Purchasing Specialist (Manufacturing)
Talent Group is hiring a Purchasing Specialist to support supply chain operations manufacturing environment. This role is critical in ensuring material availability, cost efficiency, and supplier performance to support ongoing manufacturing operations.
Important: This is an on-site position in Hillsborough, NJ. No relocation assistance is provided. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Client is not able to provide current or future employment visa sponsorship for this position.
Position Overview
The Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, components, and services required for manufacturing. This individual will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Finance to ensure a reliable supply chain while maintaining cost and inventory targets.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and procure raw materials, components, and outsourced services
- Evaluate suppliers and ensure competitive pricing and performance
- Analyze quotes and negotiate terms to support cost objectives
Supplier Management
- Maintain and develop supplier relationships
- Monitor supplier performance (on-time delivery, quality, cost)
- Support audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
Production & Planning Support
- Align purchasing activities with production schedules
- Monitor material availability and mitigate supply risks
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels
Cost Control & Negotiation
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and long-term agreements
- Track market trends (materials, freight, etc.)
- Support cost-reduction and budgeting initiatives
Compliance & Documentation
- Manage purchase orders and supplier documentation within ERP systems
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering on specifications and BOM accuracy
- Work with Production and Warehouse to resolve shortages
- Support Finance with invoice reconciliation and cost verification
Qualifications
Required
- 2–5 years of purchasing or supply chain experience (manufacturing preferred)
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills
- Experience working with suppliers and managing procurement processes
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP/MRP systems
Preferred
- Experience in metals, fabrication, automotive, or heavy manufacturing
- Knowledge of cost drivers (steel, freight, logistics)
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles
- APICS, ISM, or related certifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred
