Bengal Engineers LLC is a professional civil engineering and land surveying firm providing plan review, site/civil engineering, stormwater management, floodplain, utility, transportation, structural, inspection, permitting, and project management services for public and private sector clients.
We are seeking experienced civil engineering professionals to support our plan review services on a part-time, remote basis. This position is ideal for retired agency reviewers, senior engineers, peer reviewers, or experienced consultants who are interested in flexible, well-compensated technical review work.
Position Summary
The Plan Reviewer will review engineering plans, reports, calculations, and supporting documents for compliance with applicable federal, state, county, municipal, and agency standards. Review assignments may vary based on the candidate’s area of expertise.
Potential Review Areas
- Site/civil development plans
- Stormwater management and ESD design
- Grading plans
- Erosion and sediment control plans
- Floodplain studies and H&H analyses
- Drainage studies and storm drain design
- Utility plans, water/sewer systems, and pump stations
- Transportation, traffic, signing, marking, signal, and MOT plans
- Wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects
- Constructability, value engineering, and QA/QC reviews
- Electrical, instrumentation, controls, and SCADA reviews for water/wastewater facilities
Key Responsibilities
- Perform technical reviews of plans, reports, calculations, and design documents.
- Check compliance with applicable codes, design manuals, regulations, and agency standards.
- Review hydrologic/hydraulic calculations, drainage areas, SWM/ESD requirements, profiles, details, specifications, and cost estimates as applicable.
- Prepare clear written review comments.
- Coordinate with internal project managers and design teams.
- Participate in occasional virtual review meetings.
- Support permit review, peer review, QA/QC, and constructability review assignments.
- Provide practical recommendations to resolve technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer license preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant civil engineering, municipal review, agency review, or consulting experience preferred.
- Prior experience reviewing plans for county, municipal, state, or federal agencies is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., or regional agency standards is a plus.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet review deadlines.
- Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/OpenRoads, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, TR-55/TR-20, HY-8, GIS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, Synchro, or similar software is a plus.
