Penn Woods Classical Part-Time Custodian Position Overview
The Part-Time Custodian serves an essential role in supporting the daily operation of Penn Woods Classical Academy by helping provide a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, families, and visitors. Working under the direction of the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor/Custodian, the Part-Time Custodian assists in maintaining the school's facilities in a manner that reflects excellence, stewardship, hospitality, and care for God's provision.
This position supports the educational mission of Penn Woods Classical Academy by ensuring that classrooms and facilities remain conducive to learning and that the campus consistently reflects the professionalism and Christian character of the school.
The Part-Time Custodian understands that maintaining the physical environment is an important ministry of service that enables students and teachers to flourish in pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.

Primary Areas of Responsibility
1. Daily Custodial Operations
Maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of all assigned areas throughout the school.
Responsibilities include:
- Clean classrooms, hallways, offices, conference rooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Vacuum carpets and entrance mats.
- Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, and sanitize hard surface flooring.
- Empty trash and recycling containers.
- Dust furniture, shelving, windowsills, and fixtures.
- Clean interior glass, mirrors, doors, and high-touch surfaces.
- Restock restroom supplies.
- Maintain custodial closets in a clean and organized manner.
2. Facility Support
Assist the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor/Custodian with maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming campus.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with classroom setups and room reconfigurations.
- Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings and school events.
- Assist with seasonal cleaning and summer deep-cleaning projects.
- Support preventative maintenance efforts as assigned.
- Help maintain exterior entrances and sidewalks.
- Report maintenance concerns, equipment failures, or safety hazards promptly.
3. Building Stewardship
Promote excellence in the care and stewardship of school facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitor building conditions throughout assigned shifts.
- Assist in maintaining attractive classrooms and common areas.
- Notify the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor/Custodian when supplies require replenishment.
- Properly care for custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
- Follow established cleaning schedules and quality standards.
4. Safety and Compliance
Support a safe learning and working environment for the entire school community.
Responsibilities include:
- Follow OSHA regulations and school safety procedures.
- Properly store and handle cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Maintain awareness of potential safety concerns and report them immediately.
- Follow all emergency procedures and school policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school operations and student information.
5. Professionalism and Team Support
Serve the Penn Woods Classical Academy community with professionalism, humility, and a servant's heart.
Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and accountability.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Work cooperatively with faculty and staff.
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to school needs.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor/Custodian or Head of School.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate professionally with staff and supervisors.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of custodial work.
Preferred
- Previous custodial, facilities, maintenance, or janitorial experience.
- Experience working in a school, church, nonprofit, or commercial facility.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and custodial best practices.
Physical Requirements
The employee must regularly be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Operate custodial equipment including vacuums, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning tools.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Work indoors and outdoors as needed in varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule
- Approximately 20–25 hours per week
- Primarily weekday afternoons and evenings
- Occasional weekends and special event support as needed
Employment Requirements
Employment is contingent upon:
- Successful completion of all required Pennsylvania criminal background clearances
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
- FBI Fingerprint Clearance (if applicable)
- Verification of employment eligibility
- Satisfactory professional references
- Compliance with all Penn Woods Classical Academy employment policies and procedures
Pay: $24,000.00 - $26,000.00 per year
