Technical Designer & Production Manager
Full-Time | Lesley Evers
Lesley Evers is seeking an experienced, highly organized Technical Designer & Production Manager to lead the technical development and production execution of our collections.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how to take a garment from design concept through final production—and who brings equal strength in fit, construction, factory communication, and calendar management.
Working closely with our design team and manufacturing partners, you will ensure every style preserves its creative intent while meeting our standards for fit, quality, cost, and on-time delivery. Your work will directly affect customer satisfaction, return rates, inventory productivity, and the growth of the Lesley Evers brand.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Design and Fit
- Create and maintain accurate, factory-ready tech packs, including measurements, construction details, BOMs, trims, artwork placement, and production notes
- Translate design concepts and sketches into clear technical specifications that factories can execute consistently
- Lead and document fit sessions from prototype through pre-production and final approval
- Evaluate samples for fit, proportion, measurements, construction, workmanship, and consistency
- Recommend pattern, grading, measurement, and construction changes that improve fit without compromising the design
- Communicate concise, actionable fit comments and corrections to factories
- Maintain accurate specifications and revision histories across all rounds of development
- Identify recurring fit or construction problems and help establish standards that reduce returns and unnecessary sample iterations
Production and Factory Management
- Own and maintain the production calendar, tracking every style from initial development through sampling, approval, bulk production, and delivery
- Communicate directly with domestic and international factories and production partners
- Set clear deadlines, monitor progress, and follow up consistently to keep production on schedule
- Proactively identify risks involving timing, quality, materials, construction, or factory capacity and escalate them early
- Review and approve strike-offs, lab dips, fabrics, trims, artwork placement, labels, packaging, and other production components
- Troubleshoot production issues quickly and make practical decisions that balance design, quality, timing, and cost
- Maintain organized records of tech packs, samples, approvals, fit comments, and production status
- Help establish and enforce consistent quality-control standards across products and manufacturing partners
Product and Inventory Partnership
- Partner with design and management to ensure products are technically sound, commercially viable, and appropriate for production
- Provide input on production complexity, material usage, lead times, minimums, and manufacturing risk before orders are finalized
- Support more disciplined production decisions by identifying styles, fabrics, or construction details that create avoidable cost, delays, quality problems, or returns
- Use sales, return, fit, and customer-feedback data to recommend improvements to future production
- Help develop repeatable blocks, grading standards, construction methods, and factory processes that improve consistency and reduce development time
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in technical design, apparel production, product development, or a closely related role
- Strong knowledge of women’s garment construction, patternmaking, fit, measurements, grading, fabrics, and apparel manufacturing
- Demonstrated experience creating detailed, professional tech packs
- Experience managing products through sampling, pre-production, bulk production, and final delivery
- Experience communicating directly with apparel factories, including international production partners
- Strong fit intuition and the ability to diagnose and clearly communicate fit corrections
- Excellent organizational and project-management skills
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple styles, approvals, and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong written communication skills, particularly when explaining technical requirements
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and spreadsheets
- Experience with apparel PLM, inventory, or production-management systems is a plus
- Comfortable using AI and other modern tools to improve documentation, analysis, communication, and workflow efficiency
- Comfortable working in a small, collaborative company where people take ownership and solve problems directly
The Ideal Candidate
You are equal parts technical expert, production owner, and product problem-solver.
You notice when a neckline is sitting a quarter-inch too high—and when a production deadline is about to slip. You can preserve a designer’s creative vision while giving a factory the exact information required to produce it successfully.
You are organized without being bureaucratic, direct without being abrasive, and persistent about follow-through. You enjoy improving systems, preventing problems before they become expensive, and creating clothing that customers feel confident wearing.
You have a strong appreciation for color, original prints, flattering silhouettes, and thoughtful construction. Most importantly, you care about achieving excellent fit and consistent execution—not simply moving styles through a calendar.
What Success Looks Like
- Production milestones and deliveries are consistently met
- Tech packs and factory communications are complete, clear, and accurate
- Fit is more consistent across styles, sizes, and production runs
- Sample rounds, avoidable errors, and last-minute production problems decline
- Product-related returns and customer fit complaints improve
- Management has clear, reliable visibility into production status and risks
- Factories are held to consistent standards for quality and execution
