Job Overview
Washington Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and passionate 5th-6th Grade Teacher to join our team and support our scholars in achieving academic success. The ideal candidate will create a positive and engaging classroom environment that fosters a love of learning, promotes social-emotional growth, and builds a strong foundation in literacy and mathematics.
This position requires implementing high-quality instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and the curriculum maps developed by the School City of East Chicago. The teacher will use data-driven instruction, differentiated practices, and effective classroom management strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
- Deliver high-quality instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- Utilize data from assessments to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions.
- Create a positive classroom culture that promotes high expectations and student achievement.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with special needs and English learners.
- Incorporate technology and interactive resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback.
- Establish strong relationships and maintain regular communication with parents and families.
- Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, and support staff to improve student outcomes.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and school initiatives.
- Maintain accurate student records and fulfill all district responsibilities and expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
- Valid Indiana teaching license or the ability to obtain Indiana certification.
- Experience teaching in an elementary classroom preferred.
- Strong knowledge of early literacy and foundational mathematics instruction.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction and engage young learners.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, student-centered learning environment.
