Project Engineer / Field & Office Operations Support
About Us
Anvil Edge is a fast-growing electrical subcontractor specializing in commercial tenant improvement work — retail, healthcare, and hospitality build-outs — across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. We run lean, move fast, and give people real ownership early. If you want a desk job where you never see a jobsite or touch a real decision, this isn't it.
The Role
We're looking for a Project Engineer to be the connective tissue between our field crews, our PMs, and our estimators. This isn't a "sit in the corner and file paperwork" PE role — you'll own real pieces of how our jobs run, with direct exposure to how a subcontracting business actually operates from the ground up. If you're early in your career and want to learn the business side of construction fast — not just design — this is one of the more hands-on seats you'll find.
What You'll Do
- Review and track change orders — compare GC pricing and scope against actual drawings, flag discrepancies before they cost us money
- Manage RFIs — know which ones are actually blocking work and push GCs to keep jobs moving
- Support scheduling across multiple concurrent jobs — track critical path, flag slippage before it becomes a problem
- Track field labor hours by job/cost code and feed data into ADP for payroll processing
- Assist with job costing and requisition prep — SOV tracking, percent-complete billing
- Provide day-to-day support to PMs and estimators — the person who fills the gaps, not the person waiting to be told what to do
- Occasional site visits to see how the paperwork translates to the actual work
What We're Looking For
- Engineering degree (civil, construction management, electrical, or related) — new grads welcome
- Comfortable reading drawings and specs, or eager to learn fast
- Organized, detail-oriented, doesn't let things fall through the cracks
- Can work independently but knows when to ask questions
- Familiarity with scheduling software, ADP, or construction management platforms (Procore, Bluebeam) a plus — not required
Why This Role
- Direct line of sight into how a subcontracting company actually runs — estimating, contracts, field ops, payroll, all of it
- Real responsibility from day one, not busywork
- Clear growth path toward PM or estimating if that's where you want to go — we promote from inside
- Small company, flat structure — you'll work directly with ownership, not get lost in layers of management
- Competitive salary + growth trajectory tied to performance, not tenure
If you want to learn construction from the inside — not just the drawings, but the money, the schedule, and the people — this is the seat.
