A growing trucking operation is seeking an experienced Shop Supervisor to lead a high-performing maintenance team. About the Role
As the Shop Supervisor, you will oversee daily shop operations, assign and review work orders, train mechanics, and ensure all maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You'll play a key role in keeping the fleet road-ready and in excellent condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of diesel mechanics, technicians, and shop staff.
- Assign and prioritize tasks based on urgency and technician skill sets.
- Train and guide staff, conduct performance reviews, and address performance issues.
- Ensure shop compliance with DOT, OSHA, and internal safety policies.
- Oversee repair schedules and ensure timely vehicle availability.
- Perform quality control inspections and review completed repairs.
- Maintain/collaborate with manager on accurate repair logs, timecards, and work orders.
- Manage parts inventory and ensure the availability of required supplies.
- Communicate with internal departments regarding repair timelines and status.
- Support manager with payroll processing and maintain documentation for billing purposes.
- Assist management with staffing, procurement, and planning decisions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, including at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or college training preferred.
- Certification in diesel mechanics or fleet management is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA safety standards, and fleet compliance practices.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in maintenance management systems and Office software.
