Why This Role Matters
The Process Engineer serves as a key technical resource responsible for improving the safety, reliability, efficiency, and performance of our metallurgical processing operations. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, Environmental Health & Safety, and leadership, this role identifies opportunities to improve process stability, product quality, metal recovery, equipment reliability, and overall operational performance through engineering analysis and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Analyze manufacturing processes, production data, and equipment performance to identify opportunities for improved safety, efficiency, quality, and throughput.
- Monitor and optimize process parameters to improve production stability, maximize recovery, and enhance product quality.
- Investigate process inefficiencies, troubleshoot operational issues, perform root cause analyses, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions, process improvements, and equipment modifications that improve operational performance.
- Lead and support capital improvement projects, including process design, equipment selection, installation, commissioning, startup, and validation.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, Environmental Health & Safety, and other cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, technical reports, and operating procedures.
- Monitor key process performance indicators (KPIs), evaluate process data, and present recommendations that support data-driven decision making.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, automation opportunities, and best practices to drive continuous improvement across the operation.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Three or more years of progressive engineering experience in non-ferrous metallurgy, metals processing, mining, recycling, chemical processing, or another heavy industrial environment preferred.
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations through process optimization, technical troubleshooting, equipment improvements, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze process data, laboratory results, and operational performance to improve safety, recovery, quality, efficiency, and equipment reliability.
- Experience leading or supporting capital projects, including process design, equipment selection, installation, commissioning, startup, and validation.
- Working knowledge of metallurgical processing systems, industrial equipment, process control principles, PFDs, P&IDs, and engineering documentation.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple functional areas.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, engineering software, process control systems, data analysis tools, ERP systems, and related engineering applications.
- Familiarity with laboratory testing, process data interpretation, DCS, PLCs, SCADA systems, or other industrial automation technologies is preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial safety practices, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime as business needs require.
