WHITE MOUNTAINS REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description Title: Physical Education/Wellness Educator Reports To: Principal Qualifications: Bachelors Degree from accredited Institution. Certified Physical Education Teacher Health certification -desired Description: To oversee the development and implementation of a school-wide physical education program. To develop an overall health and wellness approach at the high school to achieve lifelong fitness goals for all students. To provide for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries that occur to students of the White Mountain Regional School District as a result of participation in District sponsored interscholastic athletics.
To provide care that will minimize loss of competitive time, while keeping the mental and physical welfare of the athlete as the top priority. Duties and Responsibilities: Provides health, safety, family life education and/or physical education instruction as assigned. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils. Assumes responsibility proper use and storage of physical education equipment.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive learning environment. Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, behavior and learning problems. Assist Athletic Director and School Nurse in compliance with pre-participation physical exam requirements. Assist Athletic Director with required first aid and CPR instruction for coaching staff.
Advise coaches and athletes of flexibility, strength and conditioning programs designed to reduce the incidence of injury and optimize performance. Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques. Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures. Seek assistance from the parents and the Principal when needed.
Assist with extracurricular activities, supporting the total program of the school. Instruct, advise, coach, and supervise extracurricular activities. Serve as a consultant to the middle school athletic program by collaborating with other district Physical Education Teachers. Develop annual budget, as well as inventory and order supplies in cooperation with the Athletic Director and school Principal.
Maintain and supervise the White Mountains Regional School Districts Concussion Protocol. Schedule and Coach summer and in-between season conditioning workouts. Develop age and developmentally appropriate healthy and active lifestyle programs and games. Oversee safety conditions of the facility or area in which training is conducted.
Follow all rules assigned by the athletic director and building principal. Exhibit respectful and effective communication with parents and student-athletes. Submit appropriate paperwork required in a timely fashion. Supervise student-athletes while in the building or on school grounds.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal or District Athletic Director. Other: May require lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, squatting, driving, sitting for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, climbing, walking, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, stooping, crouching and crawling.
