About Palm Engineering
Palm Engineering Construction Company, Inc. is a San Diego-based general engineering contractor specializing in civil construction. Palm performs public works and private-sector projects involving roadway improvements, underground utilities, concrete, grading, drainage, site development, and related infrastructure throughout San Diego County.
Palm is seeking motivated professionals who can support its existing public works operations while helping the company expand its private commercial, industrial, and site-development work.
Position Summary
Palm Engineering is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support project managers, estimators, and field operations. The successful candidate will assist with projects from preconstruction and award through final completion.
This position is appropriate for an organized candidate who wants broad experience in both public and private civil construction.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain submittal, RFI, change-order, procurement, and project correspondence logs.
- Review plans, specifications, addenda, proposals, and contract requirements.
- Assist with subcontractor, supplier, owner, architect, engineer, and field coordination.
- Track project quantities, costs, schedules, procurement needs, and outstanding issues.
- Assist in preparing change-order requests, cost proposals, progress billings, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with public-agency compliance requirements, including certified payroll, apprenticeship, subcontractor participation, and project closeout documentation.
- Support private-sector projects involving commercial, industrial, multifamily, and site-development work.
- Attend project meetings and prepare meeting notes and follow-up items.
- Visit project sites to confirm progress, quantities, and field conditions.
- Assist with punch-list completion, warranties, turnover, and final documentation.
- Support estimating and preconstruction activities when needed.
Qualifications
- Construction, engineering, estimating, project coordination, or related experience preferred.
- Public works, private site development, heavy civil, underground utility, concrete, grading, or roadway experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Strong written communication, organization, and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF review or markup software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required when supported by relevant experience.
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
