This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment with administrative duties in the High Point University (HPU) Workman School of Dental Medicine and HPU Heath- Oral Health Network. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience and qualifications at time of hire. The Chief Dental Officer (often known as an Assistant Dean for Practice in dental schools) oversees patient care services and ensures the highest possible quality of patient care. The Chief Dental Officer will play a key role in serving and supporting patient experience, healthcare outcomes, fiscal sustainability, and team culture/morale, also known as the quadruple aim.
The CDO serves as a bridge between the academic program (DMD) and its clinical network (HPU Health- Oral Health Network). The Chief Dental Officer must be a licensed oral health professional and possess a current state-issued license to practice dentistry. Finally, the applicant should have at least the minimum continuing education credits needed to maintain their license. Because the Chief Dental Officer position includes both clinical and administrative skills, applicants must have clinical experience treating patients and administrative experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
Knowledge of current standards and protocols in dentistry, radiology, pathology, infection control, asepsis prevention
Lead s the coordination, development , and performance of the HPU Oral Health Network which includes acquisitions, de novo construction, clinical and administration workflows, and standard operating protocols (systems)
Maintain s an appropriate and legally acceptable patient record system and be responsible for storage, content, release, and adequacy in a manner that is consistent with applicable regulations.
Review s practice fee schedules on an annual basis, recommending changes when appropriate , and coordinate implementation of fee revisions with HPU Health leadership/managers and appropriate team members .
Clinical Operations Oversight
Work s with the Director of Clinical Operations, Manager of Credentialing, Manager of Compliance, and Director of Quality Improvement to ensure seamless practice operations.
Conduct s , with the assistance of the Director of QI , quality assurance audits in the areas of treatment rendered and record keeping; adherence to infection control protocol; timeliness of patient care and completion cases; injury reports; remakes; fee adjustments and fee waivers; and patient satisfaction. This information will be reported to the Clinician Council and appropriate segments shared with various didactic/clinical disciplines.
Institute s and maintain s acceptable methods and procedures of infection control, instrument sterilization and radiation hygiene, and monitor both student and faculty compliance with these protocols and directives.
Oversees maintenance of information regarding the performance and productivity of each student and each practice location. In the case of student data, such may be required to be reported to the Assistant Dean for Education for purposes of monitoring student activity through the CARE Performance Review Team
Oversee s the Clinician Council for development of evidence-based practice (EBP) and formulary for supplies, materials, instruments, laboratory, and equipment (SMILE).
The CDO is the responsible party for ensuring quadruple aim (patient experience, healthcare outcomes, team culture/wellness, and fiscal sustainability) is achieved and continuously enhanced.
