Job Description:
DSPs work directly with individuals with developmental disabilities. DSPs assist individuals with personal care, maintaining their homes, and travel in the community.
Starting Pay for regular part-time and full-time DSPs is $15.00 per hour after successfully completing orientation training at a training wage of $10.70 per hour. Orientation training includes class room training and supervised instruction with clients. Orientation training lasts three days. Applicants that do not successfully complete training will not be retained.
- Part-time PRN DSPs are paid $10.70 per hour during orientation training. After successful completion of orientation training the wage increases to $13.00 per hour. Regular part-time and full-time DSPs are required to work the hours they are scheduled for on the weekly published schedule. The part-time PRN DSPs are offered hours when regular staff are off due to planned and unplanned absences. Part-time PRN DSPs may accept the hours offered to cover for regular DSPs or the part-time PRN DSPs may decline the hours without penalty as long as they accept at least one offer of hours for a shift each month. If the part-time PRN DSP accepts no hours in a month they will be removed from the PRN DSP list. The maximum number of hours a part-time PRN DSP may work is 30 per week. PRN DSPs are not eligible to receive differentials.
Differentials available to regular DSPs with additional training after employment:
$.50 per hour with certification to administer medications and complete healthcare related tasks. This certification consists of four days of training provided by our Registered Nurse.
$.50 per hour with authorization to drive company vehicles and insurability with company insurance carrier. Training provided.
$1.00 per hour for residential homemaker and personal care with individuals after ODODD 60 hour on-line course completion and two years of work experience in field of developmental disabilities.
No benefits listed above are available for part-time PRN DSPs.
Regular part-time DSPs receive only vacation benefits.
Regular full-time DSPs are eligible for all benefits listed above.
Schedule Residential Services: Due to the nature of our business, DSPs working in residential services are required to work evenings or nights, weekends, and holidays. Hours and days of work may vary and are subject to change.
Schedule Day Services: DSPs working in the Day Services Program primarily work Monday - Friday From 7:30/8:00 am to 4:00/4:30. Special events and assignments may result in adjustments to the working hours. When the OUR Place Day Services Program is closed the DSPs that regularly work day services are scheduled to work residential services. When required to work residential due to closures of the day program the work days and hours are primarily the same as when working in the day services location.
All DSPs are required to be flexible with working at all different locations in Scioto County. Locations include McDermott, Portsmouth, Rosemount, Sciotoville, and Wheelersburg.
Job requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must show respect to all other persons.
- Day Services DSPs must have acceptable driving record. Day Services DSPs are required to drive all company vehicles including mini buses with 22/24 feet in length.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting, pulling, and carrying.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing.
- Standing for long periods of time (can be several hours at a time).
- Ability to assist non-ambulatory individuals with transfers.
