The Residential Installation Technician will play an integral role in laying the foundation of fiber optic infrastructure in residential areas. This involves installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems, ensuring high-quality connectivity for our customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and select appropriate cable types and routes, installing and burying drops in accordance with the residential fiber plant specifications
- Skillfully operate and maintain a range of equipment to install and maintain fiber optic lines and splice closures, ensuring optimal service consistency
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot single mode and multimode fiber optic cable within residential settings
- Perform cable splicing using fusion and mechanical techniques
- Identify, install, and ensure the proper functioning of various telecommunications equipment
- Ensure all telecommunications equipment (routers, switches, repeaters) and related infrastructure function correctly
- Utilize ladders and operate bucket trucks to access aerial infrastructure, ensuring the safe installation and maintenance of fiber optic cables and hardware at elevated heights
- Maintain accurate records of installations and repairs, ensuring adherence to safety standards
- Restore landscaping post-installation, maintaining or improving upon the original condition
- Provide exceptional customer service, going the extra mile, and demonstrating the ability to re-adapt to varying work tasks
- Provide on-call support and work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends, to address customer needs promptly
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable
- Over 1 year of experience in cable construction, preferred
Work is performed at customer job sites and involves exposure to various weather conditions, machinery, and potential travel requirements. The role may demand adapting to noisy, vibrant, or confined spaces.
