School Registered Nurse
Job Description
Function:
The School RN performs multiple duties related to the health functions of Young Audiences Charter School. The Nurse is responsible for the record keeping, state reporting and administering medication and First Aid. The School Nurse is part of the Young Audiences Charter School team and shares in the duties and daily school operations.
Know How:
This is a full time position that requires an action oriented person with the ability to manage multiple tasks; excellent organizational and communication skills. This position requires attention to detail, a commitment to the highest quality work, a self-starter with precise record keeping skills, computer knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Access and Excel). Must be able to function both independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possess a valid RN license in the state of Louisiana. Minimum of two years nursing experience and computer literacy. Basic Life Support Certification and CPR Certified. Knowledge of LINKS.
Essential Functions:
· Provides Medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (based on Louisiana state regulations), and provides care to ill children on a daily basis, including first aid to injured students and staff.
· Maintains comprehensive school health records
· Participates on the school’s Interdisciplinary Team
· Maintains the school nurse’s office (equipment and supplies)
· Administers or coordinates vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening. Refers for follow up evaluation when needed
· Assists with school registration and interprets health requirements.
· Assists in the development of individualized student health care plans.
· Participates in student centered school team meetings, as appropriate.
· Acts as a resource for health education for Students and YACS Community
· Enters Student information into the state’s Immunization Database (LINKS)
· Files and catalogs student information regarding health related issues
· Maintains accurate records of student health information
· Creates health protocol for contagious diseases school wide
· Works in coordination with the school counselor in identifying psycho-social needs and implementation of action plan
· Assures that all student files have the required information for health purposes
· Conduct annual training: CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, Medication Administration, etc.
· Assists with other duties as requested by supervisor
