Facilities & Substitute Teacher
Part-Time | Regular Cleaning Hours + First-Call Substitute

Location: Fireflies Academy
The Position
Fireflies Academy is looking for a very particular kind of person.
We need someone who takes pride in a clean, beautiful environment, genuinely enjoys working with young children, works well independently, and can be counted on when the team needs help.
This is a unique hybrid position. Your primary responsibility will be keeping Fireflies Academy clean, organized, sanitary, and ready for children each day. Your secondary responsibility will be serving as our primary substitute teacher when a classroom needs coverage.
You will have a regular cleaning schedule, providing consistent part-time hours. Substitute hours will be additional and will vary based on staffing needs.
At Fireflies Academy, success in this position means:
1. The Academy is Clean Every Day
- Classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, common areas, and other assigned spaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
- Floors, surfaces, high-touch areas, and frequently used items are cleaned according to Academy standards.
- Trash is removed and supplies are appropriately restocked.
- Cleaning is completed efficiently without needing constant supervision.
- Problems or maintenance concerns are noticed and communicated to the Director.
2. Classrooms Are Ready for Children
- Rooms are left clean, orderly, and prepared for the next school day.
- Materials and furniture are returned to their appropriate places.
- The environment reflects the high standards of Fireflies Academy.
3. You Are Our Go-To Substitute
When a teacher is absent or additional classroom coverage is needed, you may be contacted to substitute.
As a substitute, you will:
- Provide safe, attentive supervision of children.
- Follow the classroom's established schedule, routines, and lesson plans.
- Assist with meals, toileting, transitions, rest time, activities, and other classroom responsibilities.
- Maintain a calm, positive, and encouraging classroom environment.
- Follow Fireflies Academy's policies, procedures, and behavior guidance practices.
- Communicate important information to the Director and classroom team.
4. You Are Dependable
This is one of the most important parts of the position.
We are looking for someone who:
- Arrives on time.
- Follows through on commitments.
- Communicates promptly about availability.
- Can occasionally respond to short-notice staffing needs when available.
- Understands that accepting a substitute shift is a commitment.
- Can be trusted to work independently.
5. You Notice What Needs to Be Done
We don't want someone who waits to be told every task.
We want someone who sees a messy area and cleans it.
Someone who notices supplies are running low and communicates it.
Someone who sees something that needs attention and takes ownership of it.
We value initiative.
The Cleaning Role
Your regular hours will primarily be spent maintaining the Academy.
Responsibilities include:
- Daily cleaning and sanitation of assigned areas.
- Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping.
- Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms.
- Wiping and disinfecting surfaces and high-touch areas.
- Emptying trash.
- Cleaning and organizing classrooms and common areas.
- Restocking cleaning and other assigned supplies.
- Completing assigned cleaning checklists.
- Performing occasional deeper-cleaning projects.
- Reporting maintenance, safety, or facility concerns.
The goal is not simply to "get the cleaning done."
The goal is for Fireflies Academy to look and feel clean, cared for, and ready for children every day.
The Substitute Role
You will be our primary substitute .
Because this position involves working with children, all required Ohio childcare licensing requirements, background checks, training, and other employment requirements must be completed before performing applicable classroom duties.

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
