Position Summary
We are seeking a warm, attentive, and reliable Toddler Teacher to care for and nurture children ages 12 to 18 months. This is a hands-on role focused on safety, responsive caregiving, early development, and building trusting relationships with both children and families during a critical stage of growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, nurturing care that supports each child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment, including childproofing and constant supervision — toddlers this age are newly mobile and curious.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that encourage emerging skills: walking, early language, sensory exploration, fine and gross motor play, and independence.
- Follow individualized routines for feeding, diapering, napping, and the transition from bottles and purees to table foods and self-feeding.
- Support children through separation anxiety and help them feel secure and comforted throughout the day.
- Observe and document developmental milestones; communicate daily updates to parents.
- Build positive, professional partnerships with families and share progress and concerns respectfully.
- Maintain accurate records (attendance, incident reports, daily sheets) and follow all licensing and ratio requirements. Collaborate with co-teachers and assist with cleaning, sanitizing, and classroom upkeep.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Builds secure attachments. Children seek you out for comfort, light up when you arrive, and settle quickly because they trust you. Families notice their child is happy and well cared for.
- Stays present and proactive. You're down on the floor engaging with children, anticipating needs before they become problems, and keeping eyes on the room at all times — not waiting to be told what to do.
- Turns routines into learning. Diapering, mealtimes, and clean-up become moments for connection, language, and building independence rather than just tasks to get through.
- Communicates openly. Parents feel informed and reassured because you share the small wins and raise concerns early, kindly, and honestly. Co-teachers can count on you.
- Keeps the environment ready. The classroom is clean, safe, and set up to invite exploration. You notice when something needs restocking, sanitizing, or rearranging — and you handle it.
- Grows with feedback. You welcome coaching, reflect on your practice, and bring new ideas. You see challenges with children as puzzles to solve, not problems to avoid.
- Shows up consistently. You're dependable, punctual, and flexible when the day shifts — because in a toddler room, the team relies on every person being there.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; CDA, associate's, or bachelor's in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Prior experience caring for infants or toddlers in a licensed setting preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of infant/toddler development and safe sleep practices.
- Ability to pass background checks and meet state licensing requirements.
Skills & Attributes
- Patient, gentle, and genuinely enjoys this age group.
- Strong communication and teamwork. Dependable, punctual, and flexible.
- Calm under pressure and able to manage multiple needs at once.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 30–40 lbs, sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and move quickly to keep children safe throughout the day.
