Role Description This part-time, on-site School Bus Driver role is based in Oakwood, IL and is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and school-related activities. The School Bus Driver will operate a school bus along assigned routes, follow established schedules, and adhere to all traffic laws and district safety procedures. Daily tasks include conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, managing student boarding and exiting, and maintaining orderly, respectful behavior on the bus. The driver will communicate with school staff and transportation director about route changes, delays, or safety concerns and provide courteous assistance to students and families as needed. The role may also involve driving for field trips, extracurricular events, and other district transportation needs.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong commercial vehicle operation skills, including Truck Driving experience and a valid CDL Class B (with appropriate school bus and passenger endorsements as required).
- Willingness to help train to obtain CDL Class B with school bus and passenger endorsements.
- Candidates should possess safe driving competencies, including Defensive Driving skills and a solid understanding of traffic regulations and school transportation safety standards.
- Candidates should possess interpersonal abilities, including clear Communication skills and a customer-focused mindset to provide respectful, helpful Customer Service to students, families, and staff.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to follow route schedules and district procedures.
- Clean driving record and ability to meet all state and district background check, drug screening, and medical examination requirements.
- Ability to supervise and manage student behavior on the bus while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
- Knowledge of local routes and weather conditions in Oakwood, IL and surrounding areas is beneficial.
