Company Description: Hughes Martin Group is a specialty contractor with services in commercial flooring and tile, glass and glazing, walls and ceilings, commercial doors and hardware.
Position Description: This position is responsible for commercial flooring and tile project cost estimating and project managing including, preparing bids and proposals for projects, scope reviews, submittals and shop drawings, accurate material orders, preparing detailed installation plans, and working collaboratively with team members to see projects through to successful completion.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Help strengthen the relationship with our customers, so we are the top company in quality and capacity, by focusing on communication and execution for our installer base
- Complete bid sheets, including labor estimates, general conditions, subcontractor costs, to project the cost of projects.
- Prepare project proposals/bids making sure to clearly list pricing and any special conditions or exclusions that may apply, to avoid confusion regarding the specifics of a bid
- Perform accurate take-offs based on architectural plans and specs, using multiple software systems
- Accurately prepare and send multiple types of bidding spreadsheets and proposal forms for project bids
- Prepare detailed and accurate shop drawings and materials lists for project submittals
- Estimate costs of project changes, prepare and send change order requests
- Prepare detailed and easy to read installation plans and instructions for field installation team
- Understand flooring and tile product lines, warranties, and installation guidelines
- Comprehend job specific material quantities, labor rates, and productivity rates
- Develop relationships with general contractors, product reps, architects, and designers
- Field measure project sites to ensure accurate material estimating
- Visit Job sites and attend project meetings when necessary
Other Duties As Assigned: Performs other related duties as assigned including supporting team members in the completion of their work for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the team.
Experience/Education Required:
- Minimum 5 years experience in construction related activities
- Four-year degree is preferred, plus experience in the field
- Excellent interpersonal and professional communication, both verbal and written
- Strong ability to use good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Highly organized, and ability to handle multiple project/tasks simultaneously with strong follow up skills
- A flooring or tile background preferred, but not required
- The ability to read architectural plans and specs and transfer it to an accurate and competitive bid
- Microsoft Office efficiency required
- Measure Square, RFMS, FloorRight, and On-Screen or other estimating software knowledge preferred
