Job Summary
The Operations Manager leads day-to-day manufacturing operations at MatWorks, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production while driving continuous improvement. This role balances people leadership, process discipline, and customer-focused decision-making in line with Mountville's values: do the right thing, do what is best for the customer, and drive improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily production operations, ensuring safety, quality, and delivery targets are met
- Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors and floor teams
- Monitor plant KPIs (safety, quality, throughput, cost, on-time delivery) and drive corrective action when targets slip
- Partner with Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to resolve bottlenecks and prevent downtime
- Identify and lead continuous improvement projects (lean, 5S, waste reduction)
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Manage staffing needs, including scheduling, training, and performance management
- Control operational costs and support budget planning
- Communicate production status and issues to plant leadership
- Ensure customer commitments are met by prioritizing what is best for the customer in operational decisions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of manufacturing operations experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role
- Experience with lean manufacturing / continuous improvement methods preferred
- Strong people-leadership and communication skills
- Comfortable using production and inventory systems (ERP/MES experience a plus)
- Ability to work on the plant floor and respond to shift-based issues as needed
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods on a manufacturing floor
- Ability to work in a plant environment (noise, temperature variation, PPE required)
