Job Overview
Colonial Asset Management is a growing Savannah-based property and asset management company seeking an experienced and dependable Property Management Bookkeeper to join our team. We manage a diverse portfolio consisting of homeowners and condominium associations, commercial properties, and residential rental properties. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the day to day bookkeeping responsibilities for our portfolio. This position requires more than data entry. The right candidate will be organized, accurate, comfortable working independently, and able to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies. This position will begin part-time at 30 hours per week with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position as the company continues to grow and based on individual performance.
Duties
- Maintain and update the general ledger using accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar systems.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and timely.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts regularly to ensure consistency.
- Prepare journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and analyze account activity for discrepancies.
- Support payroll processing by ensuring proper deductions, tax filings, and compliance with payroll regulations.
- Assist with budgeting processes and prepare financial reports that reflect the organization’s fiscal health.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other relevant accounting standards in all financial activities.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role with strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks (including QuickBooks Online), Xero, Sage, or comparable platforms.
- Familiarity with corporate accounting practices, non-profit accounting, and public accounting environments is preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, account reconciliation, and general ledger management.
- Excellent skills in spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets), 10-key typing, and data entry accuracy.
- Knowledge of payroll processing procedures and accounts payable/receivable management.
- Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and financial report writing with precision.
- Familiarity with GAAP standards and technical accounting practices is highly desirable.
